Bou Inania Madrasa

The Bou Inania Madrasa is one of the most beautiful and architecturally refined religious schools in Fez. Built in the 14th century during the Marinid dynasty by Sultan Abu Inan Faris, it stands as a masterpiece of Moroccan craftsmanship and spiritual design.

Located in the heart of Fes el Bali, the madrasa served both as a center for Islamic learning and a congregational mosque — a rare combination among madrasas.

Inside, every detail reflects artistic excellence:

intricate zellige tilework, finely carved cedar wood, elegant stucco patterns, and a peaceful central courtyard with a marble fountain.

Unlike many religious sites in Fez, Bou Inania Madrasa is open to non-Muslim visitors, offering a unique opportunity to step inside and experience the harmony of Moroccan architecture and spirituality.

More than a historical monument, it is a living expression of knowledge, faith, and artistry — preserved across centuries.
