The Koutoubia Mosque

The Koutoubia Mosque is the largest and most iconic mosque in Marrakech, known for its impressive minaret that rises above the city skyline.

Built in the 12th century during the Almohad dynasty, it reflects the elegance and simplicity of traditional Moroccan architecture. Its name, “Koutoubia,” comes from the Arabic word for booksellers, as the area once hosted a vibrant book market.

Although access inside the mosque is reserved for Muslims, its exterior, gardens, and surrounding atmosphere make it one of the most important landmarks to experience in Marrakech.
